ARIZONA COMMUNITY TREE COUNCIL AWARD

On September 25, 2009, the Arizona Community Tree Council, Inc., in cooperation with the Arizona State Land Department – Urban & Community Forestry, honored 19 individual, civic, and corporate entities for their efforts which beautified the local environment with trees. Arizona Homegrown Solutions, then a program of Resources for Health, was a winner in the volunteer category for our collaborative "Planting for Peace” project with local Roots & Shoots youth groups and other volunteers who planted 100 native mesquite trees in the Nuestro Barrio neighborhood. ANOTHER GOVERNOR'S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD WINNER!

Eleven year old Roots & Shoots youth leader Jacob was recognized for his Bear Hugs project with the 2008 Governor's Volunteer Service Award in the youth category. Jacob received a standing ovation after his videorecorded interview about his project was shown at the awards ceremony. Jacob is pictured to the right with Cassandra A. Larsen, Director of the Governor's Office for Children, Youth & Families and Dan Gregory, Chair of the Governor's Commission on Service and Volunteerism.

Jacob also received a Kohl's Kids Who Care award at both the store and regional levels. That means he has a $1,000 scholarship waiting for him when he enrolls in a full time college program!
Congratulations, Jacob, and thanks for all you do!

PRESIDENT'S ENVIRONMENTAL YOUTH AWARDS

Since 1971, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has sponsored the President's Environmental Youth Awards (PEYA). The program recognizes young people across America for projects which demonstrate their commitment to the environment. Five Resources for Health Roots & Shoots youth received regional certificates for their leadership and participation in the Pollution Solutions Program.

THE PRESIDENT'S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD

On January 10th, Resources for Health welcomed the New Year by celebrating the accomplishments of outstanding youth volunteers who kept track of their hours for the President's Volunteer Service Award. The RFH Roots & Shoots group received a group gold award for over 1,000 cumulative hours of volunteer service in 2008. RFH additionally awarded a group bronze award to the Valley Home Educators Teens -n- Tweens group along with five individual bronze awards, two individual silver awards, and five individual gold awards. Many thanks to these young people for making our world a better place!

ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE AWARD

Pollution Solutions was selected for an Environmental Excellence Award from SeaWorld/Busch Gardens/Fujifilm. Through this award, we are now partnered with Conservation International to promote Pollution Solution's goals. The photo at right shows us presenting our project at the awards ceremony at Busch Gardens.

CASE FOUNDATION MAKE IT YOUR OWN AWARDS

Pollution Solutions made the Top 100 semifinalist list in the Case Foundation Make It Your Own Awards. Although the project did not achieve finalist status, it was still quite an honor to have been selected as a semifinalist out of nearly 5,000 applications.
